Divination evening 2019

St. Andrew's Day, the evening of fortune telling on the eve of Saint Andrew, are an opportunity to organize the last grand parties before the beginning of Advent. Once, St. Andrew's divination had a matrimonial character and was intended only for brides. The equivalent of this holiday for bachelors was “St. Katarinas Day”. Divination was celebrated individually for the sake of secrecy, and over time they took on a collective form. Nowadays, both ”Andrzejki’ and “Katarzynki” have become a form of fun for both girls and boys.
St. Andrew's Day ends the usual period in the liturgical calendar, and the first Sunday after this holiday is the first Sunday of Advent, i.e. the time of forbidden games.
And these traditions are maintained by the Folklore Group "Wielkopolanie" by organizing fortune telling evening, which they spend among their friends and acquaintances. This one and only evening has magical power, and the "Wielkopolanie" Council introduced its guests during this year's meeting entitled "Military maneuvers".
Guests dressed up as soldiers from many eras as well as paramedics and paramedics arrived at the meeting.
For the guests of the “Andrzejki” meeting, Poznań artists prepared not only numerous oracles but also competitions in which everyone could demonstrate physical fitness and medical knowledge necessary for first aid or resuscitation. Small gifts were prepared for the best.
This year, in the competition for the best costume, chosen by "Wielkopolanie" dancers, the winner was a lady disguised as a cannonball and a gentleman in uniform from the era of the Dutchy of Warsaw.
Fortune-telling, contests and fun were endless.
