"Wielkopolanie" on the stage of Bethlehem in Poznań
This year’s Bethlehem in Poznań once again became a meeting point for the festive atmosphere and the region’s culture and traditions. Among the numerous artistic events, a special highlight was the concert by the “Wielkopolanie” Folk Group, which attracted a large audience eager for the authentic sounds and colors of Wielkopolska’s folklore. This year’s performance supported the “Pelikan” Society from Poznań, a charity that has been supporting the sick, the elderly, and those in difficult life situations for years. It conducts outreach and volunteer activities, particularly for patients requiring long-term medical care. Its activities combine professional support with the ideals of empathy, solidarity, and presence for those most in need.
The performance of the ensemble, both the core and children’s groups, took place amidst a brightly lit Christmas market, surrounded by festive decorations and stands filled with the aroma of spices. “Wielkopolanie” presented a repertoire based on traditional songs and melodies from the Greater Poland and Kraków regions, as well as the folklore of the Lachy Sądeckie region. The performance was complemented by colorful folk costumes and the band’s characteristic stage energy.
The concert was not only a musical event but also a living lesson in regional heritage. The audience had the opportunity to hear songs that have accompanied villagers for generations during holidays and family celebrations. For many, it was a moment of returning to their roots, while for others, it was their first encounter with folklore presented in such an attractive, staged format.
The presence of the “Wielkopolanie” Folklore Ensemble in the Poznań Bethlehem program confirmed that a Christmas market can be not only a space for entertainment but also a place for promoting local culture and traditions. The band’s performance was warmly received and received prolonged applause, becoming one of the most memorable highlights of this year’s edition of the event.
The “Wielkopolanie” Folk Group concert proved that folklore can still move and unite audiences, and during the holiday season it takes on special significance, reminding us of the shared values, history and identity of the region.
