THE FORGE OF TRADITION

The Forge of Tradition is an initiative created out of passion for the folk culture of Wielkopolska, both in music, dance and singing. It was established in January 2019 on the initiative of Piotr Kulka, the Head of the Folkloristic Group “Wielkopolanie” and Paweł Zawadzki – musician, traditionalist.
Its main purpose is to discover and develop the talent of young performers and to enable people to reach a wide audience with folk music. Creators and teachers want to take care of the traditions of their region, especially musical, through their cultivation and dissemination, especially among children and young people. All interested participants can learn to play traditional folk instruments of Wielkopolska, try their hand at singing, and broaden knowledge about folk culture.
Teachers, Forges of Tradition, communicate the values ​​received from the true masters of folk music. They want to share them further through the traditional method of learning: master-student, without knowledge of the score, thus preserving the authenticity of folklore and the ability to express themselves through music.

The lecturers are:

Romuald Jędraszak – musician and teacher of playing bagpipes wielkopolskie, sierszenkach, tied fret violin and mazanki. Popularizer of traditional music, co-organizer of numerous workshops on playing folk instruments and music programs. Winner of the prize Oskar Kolberg awarded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for overall activity and outstanding achievements in the field of folk culture. Winner of many prestigious awards at festivals in Poland and abroad, including 1st place in the category of instrumentalist soloists at the Festival of Folk Bands and Singers in Kazimierz Dolny in 2016.

Piotr Górecki – musician, dancer and teacher of games on sierszeńkach and bagpipes. In 2002, he began to learn to play bagpipes under the guidance of master Romuald Jędraszak. He presented bagpipe traditions in Wielkopolska on numerous stages in Poland and abroad. Winner of many prestigious awards (along with Paweł Zawadzki), including: the second place in the category of folk bands during the Festival of Folk Bands and Singers in Kazimierz Dolny in 2016 or the first place in the category of bands during the Tournament of Wielkopolska Region in Kościan in 2017.

Paweł Zawadzki – musician, dancer and teacher of games on mazanki and violin. He started learning to play them in 2005 under the supervision of master Romuald Jędraszak. Participant of many trainings and workshops dealing with issues related to dance and folk music. He actively works for the folklore of Wielkopolska supporting such events as the International Children’s Festival of Folklore KIDS FUN FOLK or created book publications, including: “Selected dances and games of folklore in Wielkopolska”.
He presented the traditions and customs of Greater Poland’s culture on numerous stages in Poland and abroad. Winner of many prestigious awards (together with Piotr Górecki), including: the second place in the category of folk bands during the 50th Festival of Folk Bands and Singers in Kazimierz Dolny in 2016 and the first place in the category of bands during the Wielkopolska Region Piers in Kościan in 2017 .

Mikołaj Taberski – musician and teacher of the game on the white goat bapipes. A graduate of the State Music School in Zbąszyń in the clarinet class. He started learning to play the white goat bagpipes in 2007 as a student of the masters of Leonard Śliwa and Henryk Skotarczyk. He participated in many festivals organized in Poland and abroad. He completed the white goat construction workshop with master Grzegorz Wittke organized by the Institute of Music and Dance under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Winner of such prestigious awards as 3rd place in the soloists category during the 48th Festival of Polish Folk Bands and Singers in Kazimierz Dolny in 2014 and 3rd place during the 47 Sabałowe Bajań in Bukowina Tatrzańska in 2013.
A graduate of Poznan University of Technology.
The classes at the Forge of Tradition take place at the headquarters of the Folkloristic Group “Wielkopolanie”, on ul. Drzymały 24, and are run in various classes of instruments and adapted to the level of students.

The Forge of Tradition is:
• learning to play traditional folk instruments from the Wielkopolska region, such as: bagpipes from the Wielkopolska region, goat black and white goat bagpipes, sierszenki, tied fret violin and mazanki,
• developing the passion of children and youth connected with folk music,
• popularization of the native culture of Wielkopolska, saving from the oblivion the extremely rich world of tradition,
• care for learning to be fun with music, to bring positive emotions and joy,
