The 31st Carnival Ball of The Folkloristic Group ‘Wielkopolanie’ took place on the January 30th, 2016. As every year during the carnival, present and former dancers together with group’s friends gathered in Angello Club and partied until dawn. As tradition dictates, the ball was inagurated with Polish national dance Polonez, which firstly was presented by Wielkopolanie and later on joined by all the guests. The hosts perfomed also other national dances: krakowiak and mazur. Every minute a dancefloor was getting more and more crowded, filled with spinning couples. What turned out to be a great hook was a photo booth wall and a Polaroid with which guests took they fancy photos and could receive them within couple of minutes. Last year Wielkopolanie took part in an extraordinary festival in Koronadal, Philippines. Inspired by filipino musical and dancing traditions, they decided to present the unique folklore of the country during the ball. It was possible thanks to choreographies prepared by Magdalena Zgoła, Zofia Obrycka and Mikołaj Szymański. Filipino rhytms echoed in the ballroom and were accompanied with dancing presentations both traditionally filipino and those derived from Spanish colonialism. The show started with traditional dance from Cotabato Island, followed by a set of colonial dances, tribal dances and finally culminated in a spectacular dance with tubes. All the costumes were prepared specially for the occasion by Wielkopolanie dancers with a great contribution of Marysia Kaczmarek and obviously under the watchful eye of Piotr Kulka, the director.
