Successes of "Wielkopolanie" in Wronki!

Tancerze Wielkopolan

On October 22 and 23 this year, once again the VIII Polish National Dances Tournament “for the Greater Poland Whip ” was held in Wronki. The “Wielkopolanie” Folk Group, like many other groups from all over Poland, were hosted on this very popular event, to participate in the competition of tournament pairs.

Polish dances tournaments are an increasingly recognized form of popularizing Polish national dances. Couples taking part in the tournament compete on the dance floor in a form similar to ballroom dancing tournaments. They wear formal clothes, present a social form of dance and are judged by a jury committee. The subject of the competition, however, are Polish national dances – krakowiak, oberek, kujawiak or mazur, and in the younger categories also polka.

Also this year, the dancers of the „Wielkopolanie” Folk Group have been preparing for the tournament for many weeks. In addition to the large audience, the successes and competitions of all pairs could be followed by audiences from all over Poland via live broadcasts on the Internet, which have recently become an inseparable organizational element of such events.

Kujawiaks, krakowiaks, obereks and mazurs performed by pairs from Wielkopolska charmed the jury, which classified the pairs of ‘Wielkopolanie’ in the following places:

1st place – Spirka Bartłomiej and Kulka Zofia in category IVA

4th place – Kamiński Wojciech and Kulka Maria in category IVB

5th place – Krobski Maksymilian and Czaińska Oliwia in category IVB

5th place – Obolewicz Szymon and Pospiech Agata in the category VIA

6th place – Haraś Stanisław and Haraś Diana in category VIIA

Moreover, a characteristic event of the tournament in Wronki is the accompanying Tournament of Regional Dances, the aim of which is to nurture and popularize dances from the Wielkopolska region. Apart from pairs from Wielkopolska, numerous pairs from all over Poland took part in the regional competition, which was a very pleasant surprise for the organizers.

In the Tournament of Regional Dances, pairs of “Wielkopolanie” took the following places:

1st place for the performance of “rajlender” – Spirka Bartłomiej and Kulek Zofia in category IV

1st place for the performance of “wiwat” – Obolewicz Szymon and Pospiech Agata in category VI

4th place for the performance of “rajlender” – Wawrzynek Tymon and Kulka Maria in category IV

The host and organizer of the competition, which took place in an amazing family atmosphere, was the Wronki Cultural Association and the Polish Dance Group “Wronki”.
