New Hope

“Master’s Workshops – New Hope” is a project that will be implemented by the Wielkopolanie Folk Group in 2021 thanks to a grant from the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sports.

The task of the application, submitted under the Folk Culture and Traditional 2021 program, will be to protect the intangible cultural heritage of Greater Poland bagpipe traditions through the organization and implementation of workshops for the construction of Greater Poland bagpipes of the Bukowsko-Kościański type and “sierszenki”. Classes will be conducted in the workshop of Andrzej Mendlewski, a builder of folk musical instruments, for a period of 7 months. The participants of the classes will be people representing three age generations, who will cultivate the traditions of building and playing on regional instruments, and at the same time will be folk musicians committed to continuing the musical traditions of their region. The effect of the workshops will be to expand students’ knowledge about the construction of bagpipes, music, workshop equipment, as well as cultivating the traditions of ancestors and maintaining the activity of the disappearing profession of builder.

The project will end with an exhibition of the participants’ work as well as photo and film documentation of individual stages of the training, which will be presented on the websites related to the Provincial Public Library and the Center for Culture Animation in Poznań. In order to disseminate these unique Wielkopolska traditions, a lecture for children and young people will also be organized, to which the Folkloristic Group “Wielkopolanie” cordially invites you.
