On September 30 – October 7, 2024, Folk Group “Wielkopolanie” had the honor of representing Poland at the prestigious International Folklore Festival in South Korea.

It was an unique event that gathered bands from different parts of the world, enabling the exchange of traditions and cultures on stages in Seosan and Anseong, as well as other festival venues.

During numerous performances, “Wielkopolanie” presented the extraordinary wealth of Polish folklore, focusing on dances from the area of Greater Poland, the Silesian Beskidy Mountain, Rozbark and Bytom. Two national dances were also presented – kujawiak and oberek.

The band performed several times on the main festival stages and took part in colorful parades on the streets of Anseong. These performances aroused great interest among the audience, showing the multicolor and beauty of Polish costumes and national and regional dances.

During the stay in Korea, the dancers also had the opportunity to integrate with participants from other countries, such as Indonesia, Thailand, Romania and South Africa. Meetings, joint rehearsals, as well as participation in events such as an integration dinner and a festival gala allowed for establishing many international friendships and exchanging artistic experiences.

In addition to intensive preparations and performances, the group also had time to visit beautiful places in Korea and taste local dishes in a traditional style. The accommodation of participants was also done in a way typical for Koreans – the group slept on traditional mats placed on a heated floor, the so-called “ondol”. The program included, among others: trips to Chijangsa Temple and the center of Seosan, where team members had the opportunity to better learn about the culture and history of this fascinating country.

The trip to the International Folklore Festival in Korea was an extraordinary experience for Folk Group “Wielkopolanie”. The opportunity to represent Poland at such an important event is a great honor and a great opportunity to promote our cultural heritage internationally. They returned to the country full of impressions, enriched with new experiences that will certainly influence the further development of our team.

The management and artists of “Wielkopolanie” would like to thank the Marshal’s Office for financial support for this trip.
