June successes

There is always something going on in the “Wielkopolanie” Folklore Group. In June, musicians and dancers participated in numerous competitions and reviews.

From 10-12 June, the dancers took part in the 1st National Polish Dance Tournament: “For the Crystal Sower” in Poznań. The main group and children’s pairs participated in the tournament organized by the Wielkopolska Polish Dance Club, taking leading positions among couples from all over Poland:

  • 1st place Bartłomiej Spirka and Zofia Kulka cat. IV Open
  • 1st place Tymon Wawrzynek and Adrianna Kirchner cat. IIIB
  • 1st place Tomczak Miłosz and Olejniczak Kinga, category IIC
  • 1st place Sikora Stanisław i Węcel Kornelia cat II Open
  • 2nd place Tymon Wawrzynek and Adrianna Kirchner cat. III Open
  • 2nd place Sikora Stanisław and Węcel Kornelia cat. IIC
  • 3rd place Tomczak Miłosz and Olejniczak Kinga cat. II Open
  • 4th place Maksymilian Krobski and Zofia Dykier in category IVB
  • 4th place Maksymilian Krobski and Zofia Dykier in the IV Open category
  • 5th place Bryś Tomasz and Mikołajczak Helena cat. IIC

On June 12, the 2nd „Rawicki Maraton Dudziarzy” took place in Market Square in Rawicz as part of the “Weekend z Kulturą Hazacką”, promoting Hazak’s cultural heritage. The event program included education, exhibition, sightseeing and cultural activities. The common goal was to popularize Hazak’s history and cultural heritage and integrate the local community around the cultural heritage of the microregion. Among the numerous meetings and events was a bagpipe competition with a dance party attended by teachers and musicians of the „Kuźnia Tradycji”. The Jury consisting of traditionalist musicians and ethnomusicologists highly appreciated the artistic skill of the musicians of “Wielkopolanie”, awarding them:

  • 1st place Fryderyk Jankowski and Jagoda Pawlak cat. traditional band – youngers
  • 2nd place Piotr Górecki, cat. Soloist
  • 3rd place Piotr Górecki and Paweł Dukat, cat. traditional band
  • honorable Mention Wojciech Ozóg cat. soloist,
  • honorable mention Joanna Jóźwiak, cat. soloist

From 18-19 June in Śmigiel, Morownica and Nietążkowo, the 3rd Festival of Folk Culture “Ignysiowy Laur” were held, organized by the “Żeńcy Wielkopolscy” Folklore Association. As part of the festival, numerous meetings, conferences, and workshops were held, as well as the “Traditional bagpipe music competition – Ignysiowy Laur 2022”, during which the artists of the Forge of Tradition stood up to compete with many musicians, taking care of:

  • 1st place Wojciech Ozóg in the soloist category
  • 2nd place: Jagoda Pawlak in the soloist category
  • 2nd place Fryderyk Jankowski and Joanna Jóźwiak in the traditional band category

On June 24-26, “Wielkopolanie” presented their artistry at the biggest dance festival, the Mistrzostwa Polski w Tańcach Polskich in Wieliszew. Over one hundred couples in different age categories competed on the dance floor, dancing: krakowiak, kujawiak, oberek, mazur, and the youngest categories also polka. The rivalry of couples, amid doping, joy and mutual respect, was assessed by the Jury composed of experts from all over Poland. After two days of competition, the results were announced, which classified the pairs of “Wielkopolanie” in honourable places:

  • V-ce Polish Championship by Bartłomiej Spirka and Zofia Kulka in category IV
  • title of the Best Team in Poland in category VI
  • title of the second couple of 2021 Szymon Obolewicz and Agata Pospiech in category VI
  • 3rd place Tomczak Miłosz and Olejniczak Kinga in category II
  • IV place Szymon Obolewicz and Agata Pospiech in category VI
  • 4th place Tomasz Bryś and Mikołajczak Helena in category II
  • VI place Wawrzynek Tymon and Kirchner Adrianna in category III
  • 7th place Haraś Stanisław and Haraś Diana in category VII

Also, this weekend, the musicians of “Wielkopolanie” playing traditional instruments from Wielkopolska presented themselves at the 56th „Ogólnopolski Festiwal Kapel i Śpiewaków ludowych” in Kazimierz Dolny. During the 3 days of the festival, over 800 traditional music artists representing regions from all over Poland performed on the stage, among which 137 singing groups, 36 ensembles, 26 bands, 31 folk singers and 17 instrumentalists, including cymbalists, violinists and pipers, took part in the competition. On Friday there were traditional dance workshops from the Lublin region, a festival cinema, a night dance in Kazimierz and a bonfire in the castle’s ruins. Apart from the competition, there was a ritual spectacle on Saturday – moving outperformed by the combined Carniacy and Kurpiowszczyzna bands. Sunday began with a “master and student” concert and an accompanying concert performed by Kapela Wojciechowska and Kapela z Morcinkowa Górka. The musicians of “Wielkopolanie” – Kuźnia Tradycji were highly appreciated by a nationwide jury, which awarded:

  • 1st place for Piotr Górecki and Fryderyk Jankowski in the Master-Apprentice category
  • 3rd place for Piotr Górecki and Paweł Zawadzki in the traditional band category.

The event took place under the patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Marshal of the Lublin Province.
