FRIENDSHIP DAY 2016

“Our true friends are those who are with us when the good things happen. They cheer us on and are pleased by our triumphs. False friends only appear at difficult times, with their sad, supportive faces, when, in fact, our suffering is serving to console them for their miserable lives.”

Paulo Coelho

On 9 June Towarzystwo Miłośników Wilna i Ziemi Wileńskiej invited residents of Poznań to Park Wilsona to celebrate Friendship Day 2016. The event, under the auspices of Fundacja Rozwoju Miasta Poznania and Radio Merkury and lead by Ryszard Liminowicz, Kalina Olejniczak and Piotr Kulka, attracted a large audience to Park Wilsona where they spent almost the whole day celebrating this feast.

As the organizers have said, Friendship Day is one of the nicest feasts that we can find in the calendar. This is the day to thank your relatives and friends for being with us, for their support and help.

It was the second time when Folkloristic Group „Wielkopolanie” took part in this event organised by Towarzystwo Miłośników Wilna i Ziemi Wileńskiej. However this year they presented not only the beauty of polish dances and games but also games from 20th century. The udience, invited by the dancers of the group to Muszla Koncertowa, had an opportunity to dance okrągłego, polka or walcerek and learned to play Szewc, Brzuchaty and Praczki. These games from the Greater Poland were taught by Piotr Kulka –the leader of Wielkopolanie.

Wielkopolanie presented also the unique folklor of Ziemia Szamotulska, Przeworsk and Rzeszów and dances from Kraków Wschodni. During the perfomance the audience and the members of Towarzystwo Miłośników Wilna i Ziemi Wileńskiej sang songs from the Greater Poland and the Eastern Borderlands what was conducted by Stanisław Horbik, the musical director of  “Wielkopolanie”.

The management and the dancers of “Wielkopolanie” would like to heartily thank Towarzystwo Miłośników Wilna i Ziemi Wileńskiej for a great concert that we had together.
