Christmas Eve meeting of "Wielkopolanie"

Christmas is a time of joy, a time of love, but also a time of family gatherings. On Christmas Eve we meet at the richly set tables, sing Christmas carols, share the wafer and make Christmas greetings to each other. All these Christmas traditions have been maintained for many years by the Folkloristic Group “Wielkopolanie”.

On December 15, a great family of management, dancers and musicians of the group sat at the Christmas Eve table. As always, it was family, warm and musical. The evening began with the most beautiful Polish Christmas carol “God is born”, sung together by over a hundred participants of the meeting. This year’s Christmas Eve was also musically honored by students of the Forge of Tradition, playing on oranges, mazanki, wedding goats and Greater Poland bagpipes. Later, as always, it was traditional – summary of the year, wishes, sharing the wafer. At the tables with Christmas Eve dishes, you could spend time talking, remembering and planning.

The past year, despite the pandemic and many restrictions, was very busy for the inhabitants of Wielkopolska. It abounded in many concerts, both full-length and educational, over 200 in total. The dancers of the group had many opportunities to get to know each other and make friends. Most importantly, however, thanks to their systematic work, they contribute to saving Polish music and dance traditions from oblivion and, in particular, cultivate the folk traditions of Wielkopolska.
