HISTORYThe Folkloristic Group "Wielkopolanie" former Cepelia-Poznań came into being in January 1962. At present it is acting under protection of Provincial Public Library in Poznan and since 2000 it has been also successfully cooperating with the University of Adam Mickiewicz.

The Group was called upon to cultivate the musical and vocal traditions of its land - Wielkopolska and some subregions such as Szamotuły, Biskupizna, Dąbrowka Wielkopolska, also Bambry - inhabitants of former villages of Poznan. For many years the repertoire of Wielkopolanie has developed and now it also contains Polish national dances, such as Polonaise, Mazur, Krakowiak, Oberek and Kujawiak and over 12 regional artistic programs.

The Folkloristic Group "Wielkopolanie" has represented polish folklore on five continents in 61 countries. Has participated in a lot of international prestigious contents such as EXPO and Acaademin Sport Games Event in Korea, Royal Festival of Folklore in Jordan. In its 113 artistic travels it has already gone „round the Globe” six times. Over 3000 performances in Poland and abroad, countless audience, shows, TV - and radio-recordings, a video tape with the "Wiwatem po Wielkopolsce" movie and DVD`s describing the folklore of Wielkopolska - is a short description of Groups activities.

            For its contribution in development and promotion of polish and especially Wielkopolska tradition, as well as use of native "living sources", Wielkopolanie has been awarded a title: "Patron of Polish Folklore".

            For those activities Wielkopolanie has been awarded the prize of the Ministry of Culture and Art, the Diploma of Honor of Ministry of Foreign Affairs for promoting culture abroad, the Medal of Society "Polonia", the prize of Poznań town and Poznań District Authorities and many other awards in competitions, parades and festivals in Poland and all over the world.

In 2005 "Wielkopolanie" Folkloristic Group, was awarded An Oscar Kolberg`s Award "For contribution to Polish folklore", and in 2010 the grand prize "ŁOWICKI PASIAK".
